Frequently asked questions

When should I specify H4 instead of H3 treated pine?
H4 is the hazard class for timber in direct ground contact — sleepers, retaining wall posts, fence posts, landscape edging and any structural section buried in soil or concrete. The treatment loading is significantly higher than H3 and is engineered to resist severe decay and termite attack in continually damp conditions. If your post or beam touches the ground or sits in a footing in contact with soil, H4 is the minimum specification under AS 1604.
What is the difference between CCA WAT sleepers and eXtreme posts?
CCA WAT sleepers are copper-chrome-arsenate treated radiata pine in heavy 200x50, 200x75 and 200x100 sections, used for retaining walls, garden edging and civil landscaping. eXtreme Beams and Posts are glue-laminated H4 sections, treated with CCA or C-Azole and machined DAR, designed for structural pergola, deck and verandah applications where you need straighter, larger sections and a clean finished appearance off-the-saw.
What lengths and sizes are available in the eXtreme range?
eXtreme Beams come in GL8 grades at 140x65, 190x65, 240x65 and 290x65, all in 3.6–6.0m lengths for verandah and deck spans. eXtreme Posts are available in 88x88, 112x112 and 135x135 DAR profiles in 2.4–6.0m lengths, with the 135x135 also stocked in 3.0, 3.6, 4.8 and 6.0m. CCA sleepers are stocked in 2.4 and 3.0m lengths across the three thicknesses.
Are H4 posts and sleepers from Birak Indigenous Procurement Policy eligible?
Yes. Birak is a Supply Nation Registered, Indigenous-owned Australian B2B supplier. Every H4 sleeper, beam and post invoiced through Birak counts toward your organisation's 4% Indigenous Procurement Policy target. We include audit-ready procurement paperwork with every delivery so government, council and Tier-1 contractor procurement teams can substantiate Indigenous spend at audit without back-and-forth.
Can Birak supply H4 timber to civil and landscape projects nationwide?
Yes. Most H4 sleeper and post suppliers are state-bound and require multiple regional accounts to service a national project. Birak ships H4 CCA sleepers, eXtreme beams and eXtreme posts to every state and territory under one trading account and a single purchase order. Typical lead times are 5–10 business days for stock items, with bulk civil and retaining wall orders scheduled to your program.
