Frequently asked questions

What are top hat sections used for?
Top hats are hat-shaped steel profiles used as sub-framing: lining over masonry, framing soffits and fascias, and spanning between structural members where a batten is not stiff enough. We stock 50mm and 75mm face profiles in heights from 15mm up, in 0.55, 0.75, and 1.15bmt, with lengths up to 7.2m.
What is the difference between a ceiling batten and a furring channel?
Both carry plasterboard, but battens direct-fix to the structure while furring channels clip into a suspended KEY-LOCK system. If the ceiling fixes straight to joists, rafters, or slab soffit, use battens. If the ceiling hangs below the structure, use the KEY-LOCK furring channel system.
Does Rondo product bought through Birak count toward my Indigenous procurement target?
Yes. Birak is Supply Nation Registered, so every dollar you spend on top hats and battens through Birak counts toward Commonwealth IPP and state Indigenous procurement targets. We supply audit-ready procurement documentation with every invoice.
