Frequently asked questions

What is Design Pine and why specify a factory-primed product?
Design Pine is a factory-primed H3 treated radiata pine range engineered for exterior architectural applications. Because boards are finger-jointed, kiln-dried and primed under factory conditions, they arrive on site straight, dimensionally stable and ready for a topcoat. That removes the on-site time normally spent priming, sanding twists out of fascia and pre-coating cut ends, which is why builders specify Design Pine for fascia, eaves, weatherboards and visible architectural pine where finish quality matters.
What weatherboard and shiplap profiles are stocked?
Birak stocks four exterior wall profiles: 138x18 Design Pine Classic Weatherboard, 138x18 Rusticated Weatherboard, 138x18 Smooth Edged Shiplap and 138x18 VJ Shiplap, plus 185x18 Classic and Rusticated weatherboards in 4.8–7.2m lengths. These cover both traditional and contemporary cladding aesthetics on the same primed substrate. Eaves lining is stocked in 138x11 V-Joint/Rev (302 profile) and Regency (321 profile).
What structural posts and beams does Design Pine offer?
Design Pine includes a complete primed H3 structural range. GL8 laminated posts come in 88x88, 112x112, 135x135 and 185x185 in 2.4–7.2m lengths. GL10 laminated beams are stocked in 140x65, 180x65, 240x65, 280x65 and 320x65 in 3.6–7.2m. This means a verandah or alfresco can be specified entirely in primed pine — fascia, beams, posts, balustrade, weatherboards and trim — from a single product family for consistent finish.
Does Design Pine through Birak count toward Indigenous Procurement Policy spend?
Yes. Birak is a Supply Nation Registered, Indigenous-owned Australian supplier. Every Design Pine board, post, beam and primer purchased through Birak counts toward your organisation's 4% Indigenous Procurement Policy target. Audit-ready procurement paperwork is supplied automatically with every delivery so head contractors and government clients can substantiate Indigenous spend without the administrative back-and-forth typical of multi-supplier procurement.
Does Birak supply the matching primer and topcoat finishes?
Yes. Birak stocks Design Pine 1 Litre Primer in cartons of 6 for cut ends and touch-ups, plus ECOSEAL Finish and ENSEAL Clear Finish in cartons of 12 — the recommended companion topcoats for the Design Pine range. Supplying the boards and the finishing system on the same purchase order keeps coatings spec consistent across the build and avoids warranty disputes that can arise when third-party finishes are applied to factory-primed substrates.
