Frequently asked questions

What makes Weathertex different from other cladding?
Weathertex is Australia's original natural timber cladding, manufactured from 97% natural hardwood with zero formaldehyde added, and certified carbon-positive. Unlike fibre cement cladding it is a real timber product — but unlike solid hardwood weatherboards it is engineered for dimensional stability and consistent installation. This combination makes it a popular middle ground between James Hardie fibre cement and natural hardwood weatherboards.
What is the difference between Weatherboards, Primelok and Weathergroove?
Weatherboards are traditional horizontal lap boards stocked in 200mm and 300mm widths in profiles like Classic, Rusticated, Colonial, Ecogroove, Millwood and Texwood. Primelok is the self-locking weatherboard system in 170mm and 200mm widths — Federation, Shadowood and Classic profiles — with a concealed fixing edge. Weathergroove (W/Groove) is the panel system in 9.5mm sheets up to 3660x1196 with grooves at 75mm, 150mm, 300mm, 600mm and 1200mm centres for a contemporary panelised façade.
Can I mix Weathertex profiles on one façade?
Yes — and it is a common architectural strategy. Many builders combine Weathergroove panels on feature walls with traditional Weatherboards on body walls, or use Rubix square panels (1200x1200 and 1200x900) as a contrasting feature element. Because all Weathertex products share the same substrate, finish behaviour and fixing principles, mixing profiles on one façade does not introduce the substrate-mismatch problems you get when mixing fibre cement, timber and metal cladding systems.
Does Weathertex through Birak count toward IPP procurement targets?
Yes. Birak is Supply Nation Registered, so every Weathertex board, Primelok plank, Weathergroove panel and Rubix sheet purchased through us counts toward your organisation's 4% Indigenous Procurement Policy target. Cladding is one of the most material-heavy lines in any new build, so routing Weathertex through Birak is a high-impact way to grow IPP-eligible spend without altering the architectural specification — and audit-ready paperwork is included automatically.
Can Birak ship Weathertex Australia-wide?
Yes. Most Weathertex stockists operate state-by-state. Birak ships the full Weathertex range — every Weatherboard profile, Primelok variant, Weathergroove panel size, Rubix panel and Primed Hardboard sheet — to every Australian state and territory under a single trading account. Typical lead times are 5–10 business days for stocked items, with larger project orders scheduled to align with the cladding stage of the construction program.
