Australian Standards

AS/NZS 2272

Joint Australian and New Zealand Standard for marine plywood, defining premium veneer quality and Type A bond for use in boatbuilding and severe wet exposure.

Plywood - Marine, the product standard for plywood used in boatbuilding and other applications subject to severe and prolonged wet exposure. The standard requires Type A phenolic bond, restricts veneer species to those listed in the standard for durability, and limits the size and frequency of veneer defects to higher levels than structural plywood. Sheets must carry the marine stamp identifying the manufacturer and standard. Marine plywood is used for boat hulls, bathroom and laundry linings in some applications, and exterior signage where appearance and water resistance matter. For buyers, the higher cost reflects the premium veneer and tighter manufacturing tolerances. Marine plywood is not automatically structurally rated; if structural use is required, confirm it also meets AS/NZS 2269.
