Australian Standards

AS/NZS 2269

Joint Australian and New Zealand Standard for structural plywood, defining bond, veneer quality, stress grades, and product marking for engineered plywood applications.

Plywood - Structural, the manufacturing and product standard for plywood used in load-bearing applications. It mandates Type A phenolic bond suitable for permanent exposure, prescribes veneer quality classes (A, B, C, D, S), and ties in stress grades (F8, F11, F14, F17, F22, F27) to AS 1720.1 for engineering design. Each sheet must carry a brand stamp showing manufacturer, stress grade, bond type, veneer arrangement, and standard reference. AS/NZS 2269 plywood is used for flooring, structural diaphragms, bracing, and engineered panels. For buyers, the brand stamp is the proof of compliance: unbranded plywood, even if it looks similar, does not meet AS/NZS 2269 and cannot be used where the engineer or NCC calls up structural plywood. Always confirm the stamp before installation.
