Engineered Grades

F7

Visually graded structural timber stress grade with characteristic bending strength of approximately 7 MPa, used for light framing and general structural applications.

An F-grade designation under AS 2082 (hardwood) and AS 2858 (softwood) visual grading, denoting a characteristic bending strength of approximately 7 MPa. F7 is commonly seen in treated pine for non-critical structural uses, decking bearers and joists, fences, and pergolas. Design properties are tabulated in AS 1720.1 (Timber Structures Code) and span tables are derived for AS 1684 framing. F-grades pre-date the MGP system but remain in use, particularly for hardwoods and treated pine. Buyers should note that F7 is a relatively low grade and is not normally used for major load-bearing members in two-storey housing. Always check the timber's species, treatment, and grade stamp before using it as a structural member.
