CCA

Copper Chrome Arsenate, a long-established water-borne wood preservative effective in H3, H4, H5, and H6 hazard environments and recognised by its green tint.

Copper Chrome Arsenate is a water-borne preservative system using copper as the primary fungicide, with chromium fixing the actives into the timber and arsenic providing insecticidal action. CCA-treated pine has a characteristic green colour and has been used for decades in fence posts, decking substructures, retaining walls, vineyard stakes, and marine piling. It is treated to retentions specified in AS/NZS 1604.1 for H3 through H6 hazard classes. Australian regulators restrict CCA use in certain residential applications such as decking, handrails, garden furniture, and playground equipment, following APVMA review. For buyers, CCA remains compliant for in-ground, structural, and industrial uses where human contact is limited, but specify ACQ or copper azole where touch-contact is expected.
