Sarking / Reflective Wrap

Pliable building membrane fixed to the external face of wall or roof framing to manage moisture, air leakage, and (where foil-faced) radiant heat.

A pliable building membrane installed on the external face of wall or roof framing, beneath the cladding or roofing. Sarking provides a secondary water and wind barrier, controls air leakage, and (in foil-faced products) reflects radiant heat to improve thermal performance. Products are classified under AS/NZS 4200 by water control, vapour permeability, and fire-hazard properties, and must be selected to suit the wall system, climate zone, and bushfire rating. Reflective foil sarking is commonly used in roofs to reduce summer heat gain. Vapour-permeable sarkings are increasingly specified in cooler climates to allow drying of the wall cavity. For buyers, ensure the sarking class matches the project's NCC condensation and bushfire requirements, and follow the manufacturer's lap and fastener spacing for warranty compliance.
