R10 Slip Rating
Slip-resistance classification under DIN 51130 for surfaces with low slope-angle slip risk, suitable for sheltered residential decks and patios.
Slip-resistance classification derived from the German ramp test (DIN 51130, often referenced in Australian product literature as the basis for AS 4586 Annex E). R-ratings run from R9 (lowest) to R13 (highest), based on the angle at which a person on a contaminated surface begins to slip. R10 corresponds to slip angles of 10 to 19 degrees and is appropriate for sheltered residential decks, indoor wet areas, and patios with light water exposure. For exposed decks, pool surrounds, or commercial wet areas, specify R11 or higher. Australian commercial projects often refer instead to the AS 4586 P-rating wet pendulum test for compliance with the NCC. For buyers, confirm whether the project specification calls for R-rating or P-rating, since they are not directly interchangeable.
